Hi, I’m Sabrina, a social worker, budget coach expert and blogger that helps the budget illiterate take control of their personal finances.
Budgeting transformed my financial situation. I can help you achieve the same transformation.
You’re feeling like you can’t catch a break - you can’t get ahead financially. You may have accumulated massive credit card debt to simply survive. You may even make “good” money, but not sure where it goes.
You have tried several times to save and improve your financial situation without success. Even worst, you may have already giving up believing your financial situation can be different.
First, there is nothing to be ashamed of – most of us were never taught money management skills in school, and if you are like me, you did not have good role models in this area. Second, I was once in your situation, and I’ve found my way out.
After graduating with my undergraduate degree, I was strapped with credit card debt and medical bills, and I had poor credit. My job was paying very little money.
Having taken a personal finance course in college, I had a basic understanding of finances. I decided to put what I learned to work. I began budgeting to manage my money – to ensure all my bills were paid each month and pay off debt. While making slightly above minimum wage, I was able to improve my financial situation.
Years later, following my marriage separation, I again found myself in a dark financial place. I had expenses based on a two-income household, but now an one income household and a single parent. To make matters worse, this occurred during the global financial crisis and my employer issued mandatory furloughs. Which meant, for two workdays per month my employer didn’t require me to report to work, but I also didn’t get paid for those two days. Effectively reducing my already mediocre salary, at a time I needed it most.
You heard the saying “when it rains, it pours”…. well, that is how I felt.
Shortly after my separation I discovered that I had double “did you hear me DOUBLE” the amount of student loan debt I believed I owed. A couple years prior, I obtained an MBA, and took out student loans to pay for tuition. The economy was in a recession, and I believed I needed something to make me more marketable to obtain that high paying salary. Well, here I was with a shiny new MBA, in the same job with the same mediocre salary.
I was devasted over my marriage, broke and just surviving. To say the least, I was stressed!
After the rain and the clouds cleared, I went back to what worked previously, I recommitted to budgeting to manage my money. But this time, I leveled up, I sought out additional knowledge on personal finances by reading finance blogs and personal finance books. I used the new information I acquired to turn my financial situation completely around. Now, my financial situation is better than it has ever been – emergency fund, savings, excellent credit, and debt free.
I started this blog to share all I learned about personal finances and budgeting to help others achieve financial wellness. In addition to sharing my personal finance knowledge with you using this blog, I provide direct financial counseling to individuals and serve as a financial mentor at my church. Previously, I worked as a financial case manager helping individuals stabilize their personal finances and become independent.
